Starkick Come and Try Day Inspires at West Coast Eagles

On Sunday 29 March 2026, the West Coast Eagles Indoor Training Facility came alive with energy, laughter and connection as families from across Western Australia gathered for a Starkick Come and Try Day.

Designed to provide children living with disability the opportunity to experience football in a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment, the event showcased exactly what makes Starkick so special - community, belonging and the simple joy of playing footy.

With wet weather forcing the event indoors, the atmosphere was vibrant and full of activity. While the space was busier and louder than originally planned, families embraced the experience, supported by a range of inclusive measures including access to a sensory space for those needing time out.

From the moment participants arrived, it was clear this was more than just a football session. Children pulled on their jumpers, ran, kicked, laughed and connected - many for the very first time,  while parents watched on, often seeing their child participate in community sport in a way they hadn’t before.

Feedback gathered through post-event surveys highlighted the profound impact of the day.

“This was the first time my child has felt comfortable in a sporting environment. The volunteers were incredible and made him feel like he truly belonged.”

“The organisation was fantastic. Even with the change to indoors, everything ran smoothly and there was always someone there to help.”

“Seeing the smiles on the kids’ faces was just amazing. It wasn’t about ability, it was about inclusion.”

The event also reinforced the strength of the Starkick model  embedded within community clubs and powered by volunteers. Families had the opportunity to connect directly with local clubs, learn about nearby Starkick centres and take the next step toward ongoing participation.

For many, the day marked the beginning of their football journey.

“We didn’t know something like this existed. Now we’re excited to join our local club and be part of something bigger.”

“My child usually struggles in busy environments, but having the sensory options available made such a difference. It meant we could stay longer and enjoy the day.”

Volunteers and staff were on hand throughout the event, ensuring every participant was supported, encouraged and included. Their passion and commitment were evident in every interaction, from guiding drills to simply sharing a smile or a high five.

The partnership with the West Coast Eagles provided an iconic setting, helping elevate the experience and create lasting memories for families.

At its heart, the Come and Try Day was a powerful reminder of what’s possible when communities open their doors a little wider.

Because at Starkick, the belief remains simple - If you want to play, we’ll find a way.
