2025 Gala Day – Playing for the Jumper

The 2025 Starkick Clubs Gala Day brought colour, pride and pure football joy to Cockburn ARC, as more than 160 Starkick players from centres across Western Australia came together to celebrate inclusion through this years theme: “Playing for the Jumper.”

For many participants, this day is the one time each year they get to wear their club jumper with pride, just like any young footballer across the country. Players travelled from clubs across metro Perth, as well as from regional WA, with both South Bunbury JFC and Lake Grace-Pingrup FC proudly represented. Again showcasing the reach and strength of the Starkick community.

A Day of Inclusion, Belonging and Celebration

The event kicked off with MC Seb warmly welcoming crowd before an emotion filled moment of joy when Dan Hilton announced as the 2025 AFL Disability Inclusion Ambassador of the Year, earning a huge cheer from players, families and volunteers who know first hand the impact he has made in driving inclusive football opportunities for kids through Starkick.

Cockburn Mayor Logan Howlett joined the festivities and witnessed firsthand the joy, connection and belonging that come when communities open their doors a little wider so everyone can participate.

Held annually in partnership with the Fremantle Dockers and the Purple Hands Foundation, the Gala Day is a highlight on the Starkick calendar—an opportunity for players, clubs and families to come together, celebrate the year, and embody the Starkick mantra - “If you want to play, we’ll find a way.”

Football, Friendship and Fun

Across the day, teams played modified games, enjoyed activities, and embraced the spirit of teamwork, courage and generosity that defines Starkick. Coaches, volunteers and SEDA students supported the players every step of the way, creating an environment where every player could shine.

The Hand in Hand Gala Day continues to be a powerful demonstration of what community football looks like when everyone belongs, where every jumper carries pride, every player is valued, and every moment becomes a memory families cherish.

Looking Ahead we want to thank all clubs, families, volunteers, and partners who made this year’s event such a success. Planning is already underway for an even bigger celebration in 2026 and we can’t wait to welcome even more clubs from across WA.
